THE family of a woman who died from cancer have said they are disappointed that her former husband, who treated her with alternative therapies, will not face court.

Bacup-born Carol Lemaistre's mother Elizabeth Lord said the family wanted the case to be presented in court to shed some light on what had happened.

Alain Denis Lemaistre, 59, who runs a clinic on Burnley Road, Todmorden, has also spoken out and said he just wanted to help his ex-wife live.

Mr Lemaistre also claimed his treatment had reduced his ex-wife's tumours in the weeks before her death.

Earlier this week we revealed the Crown Prosecution Service's decision that proceedings would not be brought against Mr Lemaistre.

The announcement came after CPS solicitors had assessed a police file Mrs Lemaistre, 42, a mother of three, contacted her ex-husband at the beginning of January 2006 after discovering she had cancer.

He said he treated her two tumours with touch' and vitamin C and calcium supplements.

But when she eventually went into hospital doctors told her it was too late for the cancer to be treated and she died within hours.

Mr Lemaistre calls himself a chiropractor but was not registered with the general Chiropractic Council, which was set up to keep a register and oversee training, skills, behaviour and health.

Mrs Lord said: "We are disappointed as we wanted the case to come before the courts to shed some light on what happened."

Mr Lemaistre said all he was trying to do was help his ex-wife live.
