ACCRINGTON Stanley have launched their own interactive internet page so that players and staff can communicate directly with fans.

The League Two club are hoping to attract extra interest to the club by registering on the popular MySpace site.

MySpace has 125 million users worldwide and launching their own page on the site is the brainchild of the club's new commercial manager Lew Carroll.

He said that if the venture proves successful players and staff will start to use the site to communicate directly to the fans.

Mr Carroll said: "The site was only set up on Monday and already we have had 400 people visit.

"That shows the level of interest there is in the club and it's a great start for us."

He said that the new website will not take away from the current official club site.

He added: "We have big plans for redeveloping the official site but we wanted to do something different with MySpace.

"It is an immediate way for the club to interact with the fans and a great way to get discussions and debates going.

"We have been looking at ways to bridge the gap between the club, players and fans and we hope this will be successful.

"It is crucial for us to raise the profile of the Accrington Stanley and MySpace is a great way to do it."

The site is free for the club to operate and free for fans to use.

MySpace is used by many musicians to promote themselves but has not proved popular with other football clubs. Many prefer to attract fans to their own websites.

The website already features several photographs and videos as well as a blog entry.

"Let's see if we can grow our fan base to a whole new level."
