FORMER Accrington Stanley striker Andy Mangan has said sorry to the Bury fans after his shocking miss from six yards cost the Shakers all three points against Dagenham and Redbridge.

The Shakers took the lead after 21 minutes when Paul Scott's shot bobbled over Tony Roberts and crossed the line before Danny Foster could get back.

Daggers were level in the 39th minute when Shane Huke's cross found Dave Rainford all alone in the box and he headed past Jim Provett.

The point ended a run of four successive defeats for Chris Casper's side.

But Mangan, who made the switch to Gigg Lane in the summer, knows he was guilty of a miss that could have secured all three points.

And the striker, who is hoping to feature next week against his old club, bravely held his hands up at full-time.

He said: "The ball came to me off Scotty. I wasn't expecting it to be honest and I just thought - I'm going to smack this as hard as I can and if anything, I hit it too well.

"I should be scoring from there though; it's embarrassing not scoring from the six-yard line.

"I'd just like to apologise to the fans.

"I've had a couple of chances now and I should have put them all away. They were all my fauly, you can't blame anyone else.

"I'm six yards out, I'm a striker, it's my job to score.

"It's my job to score and I'd like to apologise to the fans for not doing my job.

"I don't know what the answer is, but we've just got to keep going.

"It's a start and a point stops the rot from four defeats.

"All we have to do now is build on that.

"The fans that were here can surely see we were a little bit brighter."
