TEN punk and metal bands played at a concert in memory of an alleged murder victim.

The event at the Charles Napier Pub, Limbrick, Blackburn, on Saturday night was a tribute to Sophie Lancaster, 20, who died two weeks after suffering serious injuries in Stubbylee Park, Bacup, in August, along with boyfriend Robert Maltby.

Money raised will go to the SOPHIE (Stamp Out Prejudice, Hatred and Intolerance Everywhere) campaign which has been launched by friends and family of the former Haslingden High School pupil. Police have said they believed Sophie and Robert may have been targeted because they were wearing goth clothing.

Ren Robinson, of Pilmuir Road, Blackburn organised the concert after a relative, who dressed like a goth, removed her piercings and changed her clothes when she heard about the attack.

The 31-year-old computer engineer, who is drummer for one of the night's main bands, The Ambivalent Complex, said he wanted to raise awareness. He said: "People seem to think goths are obsessed with death and Marilyn Manson but they aren't."

Rebecca-Lianne Harvey, 18, of Slaidburn Drive, Accrington, who classes herself as a goth and knew Sophie, said: "We are here because we want to help her family because they need a lot of support now."

The concert ran from 4pm- till 4am with entry costing £2.

Five youths aged 15-17 are awaiting trial accused of Sophie's murder and causing grievious bodily harm.
