A WOMAN was trapped for more than three hours after falling off the toilet.

Firefighters had to be called to free the woman in the early hours of today.

And it took them three hours following a delicate operation before she was free at 5.30am.

Her leg was trapped between the toilet and the wall, firefighters said.

The woman, said to be in her 50s, called for her husband's help when she fell at her home off Windsor Road, Knuzden.

He tried to free her himself, before calling the fire service.

Firefighters had to drill a hole in the wall to free the woman, whose arm was burnt by a boiling central heating pipe.

They said the woman had been left distressed by the incident.

Blackburn crew manager Craig Etherington said: "The woman had got up to go to the toilet and fell between the toilet and the wall and became stuck.

"It was a very tempestuous three hours for the lady.

"She was taken to hospital after burning her arm when she fell against the central heating pipes.

"We couldn't take the toilet out because her leg was jammed over it so we had to take out part of the wall to free her.

"It was a very embarrassing situation for her but she and her husband were just relieved that she wasn't seriously injured."
