Diana Vickers on a high with 'best song yet'

EAST Lancashire’s X Factor star Diana Vickers is on a high as she prepares for tonight’s show - with confidence classes from Take That and “the best song choice” yet.

After managing to battle through a tough two weeks, Diana has said her voice is back to normal and she is fighting fit as she prepares to sing Patience for the Take That-themed show.

The ‘little hippy’, who hails from Accrington and Blackburn, is hoping to make a comeback to her former glory after a disastrous fortnight.

Missing a show because of laryngitis, she was slammed in the national press for ‘getting a free pass’ before giving an uneven performance last week as her confidence deserted her.

The 17-year-old, who seven days ago was holding her head in her hands as she faced the judges, says it is all behind her now.

She said: “I felt so gutted. My voice hadn’t recovered and I was so disappointed in myself, I just want to give a good performance.

“I was also really affected by what everyone had been saying about it being a fix. I haven’t read the papers for a few days now and I’ve just been focusing on my rehearsals.

"I’m still bunged up with a cold but my voice is 100 per cent better.

“If Laura can get voted off then we can all go at any time - everyone’s working really hard.”

Diana, who has a background in ballet and tap, is also hoping to do a few moves on stage before the series is through: “The song choice hasn’t been right for dancing yet, but I’d love to do more.

"I’ve been doing some ballet on stage in rehearsals hoping that Brian (choreographer Brian Friedman) will notice! I’ll just have to wait and see what happens.”

Diana says that meeting Gary Barlow and Mark Owen for a masterclass was a real confidence booster: She said: “They were so lovely and told me that last week is behind me now.

"They were saying that my voice was beautiful and that they were big fans!

"I couldn’t believe it. Gary was even joking that if Simon didn’t sign me, that he would. We had a brilliant time.

“After the last couple of weeks, everything feels so much better, rehearsals have gone well and my song choice this week is the best ever.

"I’ve always loved it. It really suits my voice and I love to sing it - it’s the one and I’m determined to do really well."

Really!
Diana says, "The song choice hasn't been right for dancing yet." Excuses excuses excuses.
How come other contestants manage even though they have no dancing background?
Diana's mother has coughed up a lot of what some might say has been wasted money.
Lets see what tonight's performance brings.

I have been watching this every week in the vain hope that she may sing in tune eventually -- still waiting

She must have a lot of college friends working at BT switchboard in Blackburn or something

She's got a lot of friends in lots of places - she's a really nice girl who a lot of the public have been voting for.
Good luck to Diana for tonight. Whatever happens the armchair critics will be out in force - but they can't make a career out of a talent for bullying, so who cares!

I wasn't referring to you Frank. Some people express opinions - others are downright nasty!
She certainly doesn't do the "chew" thing on the Hero single, but I know what you mean.

TheReason, Blackburn says...
11:31pm Sat 22 Nov 08

I never thought I'd say this but, Craig David's right!

Diana has it on a plate. A record contract for the highest bidder.

You know Gary Barlow?... Yeah, THAT Gary Barlow. He said he'd sign her and he wasn't even close to joking. A compliment like that from a man that will go down in history as one of the greatest singer/song writers of all time, is fairly conclusive.

Lets stop trying to decide if Diana is good or not.

Lets do what Science does to religion... throw then facts into the air and allow it to crumble before its very eyes-

Diana has NEVER been in the bottom two.

She has the support of many famous people. O.K. Graig David might not hold much weight but Will Young and Take That?

Armchair critics... Shut your stupid mouths!

Spanishblue, Orihuela costa says...
11:43pm Sat 22 Nov 08

I like Diana BUT I thought she was out of tune for most of the song tonight and was very lucky to get through. Saying that the right person was voted off tonight.

Para Handy, Blackburn says...
12:45am Sun 23 Nov 08

Fact....Diana is Cowell's package because she's young, looks and sounds quirky, the boys will love her and with training she'll be a great mime artist!
Proof... Simon said that Eoghan had "the look" and it didn't matter if he was out of tune here and there...so GO Diana do your best!
I say... let the wardrobe department stitch you up in your wacky dress style, sack the hairstylist 'cos you don't need one, send the choreographer packing you've mastered the art of hand to face movement, and finally let the backing track drown you out 'cos it doesn't matter anymore about vocal coaching or singing in key. So Diana GO girl!
Jealous..... give me patience!

I remember back in the 60's playing in a band (they were called groups then). It entailed a lot of practice, hard work travelling round to gigs, setting up, coming home in the early hours and having to get up for work in the morning. Nowadays all these X factor hopefuls just want the instant fame without any of the hard work. They all claim it's their "passion" but are quite happy for someone else to do the hard work for them. Most are just karaoke singers who will disappear without trace.

Blondie, says...
8:57am Sun 23 Nov 08

Diana was drowned out by the backing singers because her voice is so weak and she looked like she had just fallen out of her bed which so far has been her only real talent.
If Diana could sing and perform like Alexandra then i would say she is a star.
Next week Ruth will probably go and then the x factor is going to get very interesting.

As predicted - out in force.
I just wish someone would explain to me why, seemingly articulate human beings, feel impelled to keep picking on a 17 yr old girl who has not done anything to them.
It isn't normal behaviour to develop such thoughts about someone you don't know and less so to go to the trouble of publishing your thoughts.
There are lots of more serious stories on this site that could justifiably warrant angry outbursts - but instead they insist on slating a young girl?
Go Diana - you've made it and there's nothing they can do about it other than gripe!!!

Blondie, says...
8:20pm Sun 23 Nov 08

Did anyone see Harry Hill's Diana skit? Brilliantly funny.
No one is picking on Diana we are just writing about what we hear in her as a singer, her so called style and as a performer.
Age doesn't come into the equation. If Diana wants to be famous then she better get used to the critics because she has and is having much much worse written about her in the tabloids by posters and even the critics themselves.
She maybe the nicest person in the world but we are not discussing her as an individaul person but about her so called talent in competition.

Because i write about what i hear and what i see in Diana as a SINGER.
Sometimes the truth hurts.

If you look back you will find i have praised her, NOT AS A SINGER, and if you can't find my post Brenda then you clearly don't see with your own eyes.

Go Diana Go - I think your brilliant and well worthy of your place in the competition.

You might not be the strongest singer, but you are different to anything else in the charts at the moment.

There are a lot of bitter people (maybe they auditioned and got knocked back and are jealous of you....)

Diana is a young woman and at 17yrs old she had the confidence, and the will, to go for the competition. Think about it... Diana wants to earn a living from being a recording artiste! On Saturday's show Simon Cowell said that it didn't matter that Eoghan was off key as he looked like a pop star so I think Diana need not worry, why? Well she can sack the hairsylist because she doesn't need one, get stiched up by the style experts as they join blouses and whatever together to give her the look, blow out the vocal coaching and sing off key every week because you know what it doesn't matter anymore! Diana should just be her quirky self whether you like her singing or not.
Simon says she's different and I couldn't agree more because...mmmm let me see...mmmm can't think of anyone else like her!
However, I can't see or hear star quality, and Diana's diction is a poor reflection of the current vocal coaching, and that's my opinion.
The whole idea of the comment section is to incite debate and people are entitled to their opinions. I personally don't want Diana to win the X Factor and if she doesn't I think she'll earn a living from the experience.
Finally I'm not jealous of Diana but I would love to be 17 again!
