SOMETIMES you just want simple cheap and cheerful food, and the Postal Order promises to give you just that.

It does not pretend to be any more than what it is, and because it does not punch above its weight you cannot be disappointed.

With change from a fiver for a generous club sandwich, side salad, and chips with a large orange juice, you can’t complain.

It’s never going to win any Michelin stars but it’s a quick bite to eat on your lunch break.

The menu is surprisingly extensive with anything from sandwiches, salads and wraps to lasagne, burgers and salmon fillets.

And where else in Blackburn can you go at any time of the day and be ensured of a bustling atmosphere, which always enhances the whole eating out experience.

The Postal Order is somewhere for everyone, from workers on their lunch breaks to families on a day out.

Serving food until 10pm, its a wonder they don’t run out of ingredients.

But it seems most people go here for the drinks, not the food.

We were one of only two other tables eating out of a pub full of people.

But one thing they need to practice on unfortunately is the service.

The young lad clearing tables, when we paid a visit committed the ultimate dining room sin.

He started clearing our plates while one of my friends had barely finished her last mouthful and the other was still very much in full knife and fork flow.

Waiters should be taught on their first day in the job the first and most important rule of service; never clear a table until all the diners have clearly finished eating.

But that said it didn’t spoil our visit and I’m sure we’ll be back, there’s a whole host of dishes still to sample.

>>> The verdict

Sometimes you want simple cheap and cheerful food The Postal Order, Darwen Street, Blackburn.
