A GROUP of actors set to suck blood on stage donated some in a bid to raise awareness.

Members of Rossendale Amateur Operatic Society (RAOS) gave blood at Rawtenstall’s Marl Pits leisure centre as they prepare to celebrate Halloween with a self-penned themed play.

Deedee and the Space Vampire tells the tale of vampire hunter Felix whose friend is seduced by a blood-sucking creature.

RAOS member Dylan Summer, 33, who wrote the play, said: “A few members of the cast have given blood because we thought it was a good way of publicising the show and of raising awareness of giving blood.

"I work as a GP in Blackburn so I know all about how important blood donation is.”

The play, which is being performed at Bacup’s Royal Court Theatre, Rochdale Road, will also feature band The Herbs who will help out with the music.

It runs Wednesday October 29 to Saturday November 1.

Tickets are are available from Anna on 01706 218659 or by visiting the RAOS website at www.raoslive.com.
