In the lead up to Hallowe’en, nothing could be scarier than an encounter with Jack the Ripper in a darkened street with no help in sight.

Well it made a difference that I was accompanied by ten other people to share my terror in the first performance of Ripper’s Revenge walk through horror experience at Botany Bay, Chorley, which is a very creepy place without the lights on.

Directed by Jason Karl, the TV presenter, author and horror expert, the Ripper’s Revenge, is full of gruesome characters, frightening special effects and an unnerving walk around the recreated alleyways of London.

Star of the show was Jade Willis who played Black Mary, a crazed woman of the street, who bullied us round the experience with a cackle that would crack a cauldron.

In difficult conditions she kept us entertained with a mix of menace and madness, so I didn’t know whether to laugh or grab on to the person next to me.

The only criticism was that the show was so short, especially for the hefty £10 entrance. It would have been great if it could have been extended a little to keep the fright night going.
