SOMETIMES, the best things in life are right under your nose.

I've spent most of my days in Oswaldtwistle and never set foot in the Coach and Horses in Haslingden Road.

But, after a mad dash on a soggy Thursday night trying to find a place to grab a bite to eat, my family and I decided to give it a try.

And what a little gem we uncovered. This pleasant little watering hole not only offers great food at reasonable prices but spectacular views to satisfy all the senses.

One look at the ordinary menu left me somewhat underwhelmed.

But a glance at the specials board soon removed that initial disappointment.

The choice on offer is as varied as it is tempting and although the vegetarian options aren't vast, there's certainly plenty to choose from.

I plumped for the bacon chops with Dijon and mushroom sauce.

I'm not a huge mustard fan but I was in the mood for something different and glad I was.

The sauce complemented the meat beautifully and the vegetables were just right.

My partner, Michelle, went for the vegetarian option - courgette and aubergine bake.

The sauce was a bit watery but she was still pleased with her choice.

The pub also do a variety of children's meals. My little boy, Isaac, ate his bangers and mash with gusto. Praise indeed.

I couldn't end a review of the Coach and Horses without a word on the views.

The rolling hills and beautiful countryside made for a pleasant dining experience all round.

For a couple of drinks each and three main, a bill of just less than £30 was very acceptable.

If I had to be ultra-critical, the wait to be served was a little longer than we would have liked, but now I've had the Coach and Horses experience, I'll certainly be going back for more.
