Craig Bellamy has been formerly confirmed as Wales' new captain after Ryan Giggs plays his final game for his country on Saturday against the Czech Republic in Cardiff.

Giggs, 33, has announced his retirement from international football and will lead Wales for the last time in the Euro 2008 qualifier in his home city's Millennium Stadium.

Then the controversial former Blackburn Rovers striker, with 45 caps for his country, will take over the mantle from Giggs.

And?????

He plays 4 liverpool doesnt he, so the story is totally irrelavant!!! The spelling's incorrect to. ('formerly' means he used to be Wales captain, the word is 'formally')

The writers for this paper are 2nd rate, the town deserves so much better.

I must admit this article does seem totally irrelevant. It's almost like this chap sits at his desk and trawls through web pages looking for articles.
What's going to be next "Bellamy seen on the M6 passing Preston in his car"?
Can I have a job? I'll work part time

It is completely irrelevant, maybe they are thinking bad news is better than no news!!!! A more relevant article would be the news pedersens agent says he is wanted by the top 5 (didn't realise we had a top 5)

From sky sports
The race is on to sign Morten Gamst Pedersen and the top-five clubs in England want him, according to his agent.

The Blackburn Rovers winger has been linked with a number of clubs in recent months following a great run of form.

The 25-year-old is reported to have a release clause in his contract, which looks to make Pedersen a very tempting target.

Now his agent Rune Hauge has stated that Manchester United, Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal and Tottenham all have an interest in his charge and admits contacts have been made.

"All the big five follow Morten's situation." confirmed agent Rune Hauge to Dagbladet.

"We are in contact with the clubs. Morten plays in a special position on the left and can play as well both in 4-3-3 and 4-4-2."

"The big ones might not have space for players of his type and we might see players in that position leave some of the clubs the coming weeks."

Hauge's quotes are unlikely to sit too well at Ewood Park, with manager Mark Hughes stating earlier this summer that he had no intention of letting Pedersen leave.

NEWS FLASH : Pedersen will be a Rovers player next season.
By the big 5, the agent means the biggest 5 clubs in the Premiership outside Blackburn. That would be Chelsea, Man United, Liverpool, Arsenal and Spurs. They can all afford to buy Pedersen from us, but only the top 4 are potentially worthwhile moves in terms of Champions League football. At any of these 4 teams he would be used in rotation and that's not going to benefit him - look at Bellamy's Liverpool career...
Like Bentley he's still improving under Hughes and a first choice midfield player - and like Bentley he'd be wiser to stay here another year before taking stock again.
He'll have a real chance of a cup final next season and a top 6 finish and he'll only be rested as necessary.
Reading between the lines of Giggsy's recent interviews he seems to sense the end is nigh. With only one season left in him at United, replacing Giggs would be the sensible move next season with a guaranteed first choice left wing position for Pedersen.
When a player who is still developing moves to a club where they are used in rotation, their form suffers from playing in the reserves. Pedersen won't want to be the next Shaun Wright Phillips and he won't want to play in a team of talented pansies like Spurs.
Pedersen will be holding out for Manchester United and we shouldn't really begrudge him the move when it's right for him and we can get the right price. If he goes to United this year, he should insist that Giggs leaves the club to make space for him.

Jamie, well spotted but it's grammatically incorrect the spelling is fine. You would hope for better though from a paid journalist although the dross he writes I'm sure it's only peanuts.

Not sure about all this Pedersen talk, Man U don't need him now they have Nani and I can't see them paying all that money + buying Pedersen to have 2 of them on the bench if they play Giggs.
Arsenal wouldn't suit Ped's game as they are far more triangles than he would be happy with.
Chelski may buy him but only if Robben goes and rightly pointed out above, does he want to be the next SWP?? Personally think that Ped enjoys playing and not just collecting the cash!!
Liverpool and Spuds are a definitely maybe. Liverpool are light on the left and Pedersen would suit Kuit's game, Spuds have just lost out on Nani and so will want a top class left footer - as much as it kills me to say it I actually think they will move Arsenal for fourth spot next year and so maybe just maybe he will be interested.

Deep down though I think Pedersen is quite loyal and has great respect for what Blackburn have done for him and he has a great affiliation with the supporters so please please let's hope he stays. Can't wait to see him and Bentley on the flanks with a fit Reidy in the middle!

My own personnel opinion is that he will stay, he was happy to last year and was not interested in Spurs.Man utd is probably his first choice but as metntioned they have just spent close to £50mil on midfielders. Arsenal don't play the ball in to the box very often so his talents would be wasted. I think robben is close to a new contract so I doubt chelsea would bother. As mentioned liverpool and spurs are the main threat. I wouldn't be surprised if West ham made a bid but don't think he will go their either.
