Tributes to Peter Lincoln

THE HEARTBROKEN parents of a teenager killed after being hit by a car on a motorway have paid tribute to their "happy-go-lucky" son.

Peter Lincoln, 16, of Evelyn Street, Burnley, was struck by a blue and grey Rover close to junction 17 of the M60 in Greater Manchester on Sunday at 7.30pm.

He was taken to Fairfield General Hospital in Bury but later died of his injuries.

Police believe Blessed Trinity RC College student Peter, who is autistic, was trying to return home from Manchester when the tragic accident happened.

Detectives think Peter, who was due to take his GCSEs this summer, may have been confused and wandered on to the busy motorway.

They are now quizzing witnesses of the collision as they try to piece together what happened, although no charges are to be brought against the driver.

Peter's father, Peter Snr, said: "He was such a happy-go-lucky child, who has been through so much in his short life.

"He was football and computer-mad and a big Manchester United fan. He loved Ronaldo.

"He was looking forward to starting college in September after he finished his GCSEs at the end of this month."

Mum Angie added: "He was my soul mate and we are devastated at losing him.

"We are struggling to come to terms with this."

Many students at the 1,400-pupil Blessed Trinity RC College, Coal Clough Lane, Burnley, returned to school today in shock after learning of Peter's death.

Prayers were said in assemblies and teachers are to set up a book of condolence for the teenager.

Headteacher Bernadette Bleasdale said: "He was an extremely hard-working lad and he would do anything for anyone.

"He had a great sense of humour. He had lots of friends and he was willing to help and support anybody.

"Pupils here are in great sadness and great shock."

As well as being a huge football fan, Peter was also a keen snooker player.

He was a member of the Burnley Boys Club, Barden Lane, and he was runner-up in a snooker competition final there.

Club members are due to pay their own tribute to Peter with a minute's applause at the centre.

Meanwhile, prayers have been said by pupils at Peter's school and teachers were also due to set up a book of condolence.

Peter was reported missing by his family earlier on Sunday.

He was wearing a black hooded jumper, a red top, black jogging bottoms and black trainers at the time of his death.

Witnesses or anyone with information should contact police on 0161 856 1550.

i was there last night i blocked the lane with my car but didnt realise atfirst what had hapened. it is a terrible tradgedy and my deepest sympathy goes out to the boys family. dont kow how the driver of the car felt but i still havent slept since. the biggest thing that has kept me awake is he was between two bridges when he got hit & i cant work out why he did not cross the motorway by either and i will never know why . that is whats keeping me awake, and it will feel ten times worse for his poor family and the poor unfotunate driver who had no chance of avoidig him

Val is my mother, therefore, Peter was my cousin.
In the circumstances I find topcats comments completely inappropriate and disrespectful.
I know Peters parents well and I can assure everyone that they are as shocked as everyone to learn that their son was 25 miles from home.
For those of you that are parents I'm sure that you would agree with me that their loss must be almost unbearable.
There are times when it is best to keep personal opinions to yourself, and this topcat is one of those times!

thank you Stephen, his parents are in a real state of shock and had reported Peter missing to the police. I have every sympathy for the driver and anyone who saw the accident. Peter was a 16 year old boy but not good at rational thinking.Unfortunate

ly he was also in possession of a bus pass which he had took without his parents knowledge, they thought he was at his grandmas.

So sorry to hear this ive just read all the above comments and it isnt appropriate to say things about someones child.
i have 3 myself and all kids do things they shouldnt at times.
Its a sad thing to happen and people should show more compassion to the family not criticise,in the circumstances i should imagine the parents are devastated so all of you who have said nasty things should look at thereselves and think how they would feel if it was one of your children.

A tragic loss of one of the bravest and courageous kids I have met in a long while. My heart goes out to his parents and also to the driver of the car. He will be missed by a lot of people. X

We have just read all of the comments on this page and feel truly disgusted by their content. Comments are being made by people that never had the privilege of knowing Peter Lincoln.
We did. Peter was a lovely, harmless boy with an infectious laugh and smile. No matter how or why he ended up on that motorway, the result was a tragedy. Please forget the 'how' or 'why'. A young boy has lost his life, and he and his family must be the only people in our thoughts and prayers. You will be very sadly missed Peter. Mrs McMillan and Mrs Hodgson xx (St Theodore's Roman Catholic High School)

Peter is in a better place now and after reading most of the comments i am sure he is. the lad was cheaky but harmless both my children played with Peter and never had any bother with him.
some of you should be hanged for what you have wrote on this site, in fact if i was to meet you a hanging would be the easy way.
dont slag people off that you dont know nothing about.
my thoughts go out to the driver and the other people involved i hope that they can go on in life, but for Peter R.I.P mate.
also my depest sympathy to Peters Mum and Dad brother and 2 sisters.

This is turning into a slanging match. I too was on the M60 minutes after the accident had occured seeing the poor lad lying helpless on the road. For whatever reason the poor lad has become confused and for some reason ended up where he did. No one is to blame for incident it is a tragic accident and instead of pointing blame we should all be offering our deepest sympathies to Peters family and friends who have lost someone they loved and cherished. R.I.P.

We too passed that tragic accident -completely unavaoidable in such busy traffic.
My heart sank still further when I realised this was a lad the same age as my own but maybe too angry or depressed to care about himself or others. Perhaps he felt he had not done much with his short life, and now it was too late...
But now I know differently, and that thankfully his life -which must have been sometimes so hard -was rewarding and happy.
He was plainly much loved and incredibly well cared for by family, school and friends. You will all miss him terribly.

I will remember that jounrey clearly for a long time. But I know now about a remarkable young man who touched so many hearts in a such a short lifetime, and will also never forget him.

Peter attended St John's School until he was eight. We have such wonderful memories of a lovely lad with a wonderful sense of humour. Peter over came many hardships and worked hard and loved to please people. His family were the most amazing supportive people with whom the whole school had a really close realtionship. The news has hit our school hard because we worked really well with the family whilst they were here. The whole school was gathered in prayer and we will keep you in all in our prayers. I ask the family to find strength in the fact that you loved him so much and did so much for him in the short time you had him and also know that he marched straight into heaven and Jesus wiped his nose (as it was always running)
Sleep well Peter.
