COUNCIL bosses say they intend to carry out "as many collections as possible" during the Blackburn and Darwen binmen's strike.
Blackburn with Darwen council is using a private firm to collect rubbish from homes hit by the strike over pay.
And skips have been placed in neighbourhoods, including outside schools, to collect household waste from overflowing bins.
Members of the Unite union have confirmed more strikes by bin men, street cleaners and gardeners will take place next Thursday and Friday in the ongoing row over changes to town hall salaries.
Thousands of residents did not have their bin emptied as a result of the first two-day walkout last week.
Now council bosses have advised people to put their bins out as normal on their collection date after employing Blackburn-based Neale's Waste Management to help out.
A spokesman said: "There is further planned industrial action next week but talks are continuing with the unions.
"The advice for residents is please continue to put your bin/items out on your collection day at the normal collection points and it is our intention to try and complete as many collections as possible."
Recycling collections will carry on as normal.
The skips are to be emptied and removed on Monday. A list of sites with skips is at www.blackburn.gov.uk.

Anon wrote:i completely agree with your post anon. but what i want to comment on is the part about elderly and disabled ppl, perhaps the best thing to do would be help any one u know who is incapable of taking their bin to the skips for them. show community spirit and shame the council.
Of all the places they could have placed skips, why the hell are they outside schools? A friend of mine rang the council yesterday about the issue and the only option she was given was to walk 3/4 of a mile with her overflowing bin to her nearest skip! That is ludicrous! And what are the elderley and disabled supposed to do? The forecast for blackburn this weekend and the most of next week will see temperatures of 23 degree's and the rubbish will just bake in the weather. I think environmental health will have a lot to say about their measures in place to dispose of rubbish, especially with skips being placed outside schools I dont blame the bin men because they are right to strike over the pay cuts as it is unacceptable, i blame the people who announced the pay cuts in the first place.

The side waste, the food that is thrown out on grassed area, which asian people say are feeding the birds, rats and other vermin won't touch because they know its for the birds do they? The streets are covered in take away wrappers, the bins that are placed outside your shops are used by shop keepers so no one can use them so they toss it on the floor. Self made markets selling fruit & veg that leaves its waste on the street, ash trays dumped from cars. maybe some of the reasons why no asians don't apply for jobs on the council, is they might have to clean up thier own crap. Now tell me that the bin men who work in your doesn't deserve what they get. Also isn't the rat population soaring in your area? Maybe they don't have manners because they're sick of picking up extra crap from your alley and the rest of it.

If you read properly also, you\'ll find out that these bin men are not asking for more money, they want to keep the money that thier on, The council want to just rip up a contract and force them to take a WAGE CUT you idiot. There is no one that i know would accept, whatever job they do, would want to do the same job that they have been doing for years for less money. That is why we have in this country contracts not sweat shops. Get over your ignorance and find out what this is about before you open your mouth, or are you just selfish.

I am a street cleaner, I,m on 14.7k and stand to lose 1.4k and if I don,t sign by the end of the month I stand to lose a further 1.1k, that will take me down to 12.2k. Now you're telling me that I can bring my children up above the poverty line with that sort of money? and I know what the ignorant are going to say, get another job or its ok you can claim more tax credits. But the point is I like my job, I've also worked all my life and don't want to claim benefits. Many of my colleagues are in simular circumstances and believe that they just want what they signed a contract for. Isn't it about time the likes of us started fighting back against injustices? If we all, as a workforce, just roll over and just expect to be dumped on, then I might as well give up my job and probably live an easier life on benefits, I would get my rent, council tax paid for me, I would maybe get some help with electric and gas, I would also get plenty of money to spend on booze and enjoy the comfort of being able to spend a lot of time with my two and four year old. BUT I would rather work. Go figure!
they deserve a pay cut council workers have been overpaid for years so shut up and empty my bin or find another job
