Eight injured as crash closes A59 at Samlesbury

A WOMAN was airlifted to hospital with serious injuries after a three-car crash which caused major tailbacks.
The smash on the A59 at the Swallow Hotel junction, Samlesbury, forced police to close the road.
Seven other casualties were taken to hospital by conventional ambulance.
Police and paramedics were called to the scene at 1.30pm today to reports of a multi-car crash. A silver Peugeot 307, a dark grey Volvo and a gold MG F convertible had collided at the junction where the A59 turns into Longsight Road.
The female driver of the MG was trapped inside her vehicle and had to be cut free by fire crews. Three fire engines from Preston attended the scene to help remove the roof from the car.
The North West Air Ambulance helicopter landed on the Swallow Hotel car park and the woman was then flown to Royal Preston Hospital.
The road was closed in both directions while officers carried out their investigation of the crash scene.
Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to call the road policing unit on 0845 1 25 35 45.

I also saw the accident soon after it happened, luckily no1 died. Its just been a month since a life was lost close to where the accident happened today. When are the local authorities going to do something about this dangerous road. Although some people may say its safe if u stick to the speed limit, but some idiots don't putting innocent people at risk. How often do you see police patroling the road and not even one camera is to be seen on this stretch!!! how many more lives is it going to take before the councils etc do something about this road??????
It's got nothing to do with the road, it's human error, full stop! and the whole subject of speed cameras is a waste of time, the authorities only put them in places where they can make lots of pennies!! the only way that things like this are going to stop is if people start respecting the speed limits and having respect for eachother, being patient and driving with plenty of due care and attention, like i said earlier it's nothing to do with the stretch of road, next people will be saying it's the salmesbury ghost causing the carnage!!!

However, once again we have people on here blaming the road. I am afraid all roads are dangerous if they are filled with dangerous drivers. There are accidents on a daily basis on the region's motorways - M6, M61, M65, M66, M60 , M62 - but we do not say they are bad roads and that councils should consider closing them; or allege that they are haunted; or demand speed cameras.
The fact is many drivers take unnecessary risks on these roads, especially drivers of German cars and 4x4s.
There are cameras on certain stretches of the A59 already. There is also a speed limit there which takes into consideration the nature of the road.
Too many drivers overtake on this road, when it is unsafe to do so, and often cross double white lines.

I was at the scene seconds after the accicdent had happened, and it was obvious one of the vehicles had gone through a red light!!! Regardless I hope all injured make a speedy recovery.
