THE father of a toddler who went missing for four hours after taking a bus from Blackburn to Bolton has told how his worst nightmare finally ended in joy.

Neville Loram said it was a "wonderful moment" when he took his son Lee back in his arms.

The three-year-old disappeared while out with his mother Kelly in Blackburn Market at around 12.10pm yesterday.

When he was found on a bus from Bolton, Mr Loram, 40, of Roe Lee, ran to the scene - the taxi rank outside the bus station - and embraced his son.

He said: "It was a wonderful moment to see him and hold him in my arms.

"So many things run through your mind in the hours when your child is missing.

"At this precise moment I can't even take in what's happened. I'm just so glad he's been found. This is every parent's worst nightmare."

Mr Loram said he wanted to "thank absolutely everybody who helped find Lee.

"Lancashire police especially who were wonderful, but everyone else too.

"When I arrived in Blackburn to start looking it seemed that everybody there was looking for my boy. I'm so grateful.

"I'm just so glad he's safe. He's back at home now playing, as if there's absolutely nothing wrong."

Mr Loram, a bus driver for Transdev, was on his round in Blackburn when he heard that his son was missing.

He rushed back to the town centre at around 3.45pm, and headed for The Mall shopping centre where it was rumoured Lee had been spotted.

Mr Loram said: "I rushed into the Mall, and a police officer came up with a picture of Lee and asked if I'd seen him. I told him I wish I had, because he's my son."

Mr Loram does not yet know which of his Transdev colleagues was driving the bus Lee boarded, but he said he will find out as son as he can, because "I would love to shake his hand".

Lee lives in Roe Lee with his mum, dad, brother Mark, and half-sister Jennifer, nine.

Lee's uncle has spoken of his relief after his nephew was found safe and well.

Howard Loram, a 36-year-old motor mechanic from Peronne Crescent, Intack, said: "It's great that he's okay.

"I can't believe he got on a bus on his own.

"It's pretty scary that he went all the way to Bolton.

"Lee is a really placid little boy and you'd never expect him to do something like this.

"He's never walked away from his parents before.

"Kelly is completely distraught. She's really upset at what's happened. It just shows you can't take your eyes off children even for a few seconds.

"When I think about Lee being on that bus it would have been catastrophic if he had just got off in Bolton, who knows what might've happened."

Mr Loram said he believed Lee had got on the bus and then fell asleep.

it is just by luck that this kid was found ok, the market management from what we saw was useless, by the look of it, keeping it all in-house for a while.

the first we knew of this was at 3pm in the local radio news.

when the kid went we where in morrisons, why didn`t they put an announcement over the tannoy? where they informed? they should have been, shoppers in there could have caught the bus the kid was on or might have seen him walking to the bus stop.

just after 1.20 we went INTO the market, WHY? a kid goes missing in the market, it should have been locked down nobody in or out apart from just one way out for people, we where in there for nearly 30min and never heard an announcement, all we saw was a policeman looking round the market quickish and a "security" woman looking. when we left we wasn`t stopped or asked anything about the kid,

in the town centre again nothing, by then we though something was up as there where more police then usual, but still no mention, and i don`t even thing the staff had been told as there where 4 members of staff messing with a stall cover near next, was that more important?

and as for the bus driver, good luck with your new job you should be looking for one.

let this be a warning to the drivers every now and again get off your backside and check your bus, instead of having 10 min to wait till you can set off, so reading a paper or popping to the paper shop.

maybe the search could have been called off when you got to Bolton, and the kid got home sooner.

When we had conductors on the buses a little kid on his own would have been noticed a driver can't be expected to keep an eye on passengers and drive a bus at the same time. As for a bus driver reading the paper before setting off he or she cannot set off before the departure time and I have no doubt that just jim would be one of the first to complain if he missed a bus which had departed early

Why are most suprised a child boarded a bus alone,How many kids jump on the bus and you expect the parents to follow,Great to hear hes safe and well just look next time how many kids are not holding a parents hand,Transport should change how children and parents board a bus,Let this be a lesson to others,

This is what the McCann's are fighting for if the AMBER Alerts were in place everybody would of known a child went missing from local radios to Text alerts sent to mobile users to motoways etc

amber alerts wouldnt be needed if parents didnt neglect kids and go off for hours eating and drinking!!!
the missing 3 year old should have been found by the bus driver when he checked his bus in bolton. Obviously he couldnt be bothered.

I think you will find that the BUS DRIVER did find him on HIS BUS in BOLTON and when bus came back to blackburn the bus DRIVER handed him to the police. RESEARCH your FACTS 1ST.

all of those who said the BUS DRIVER did not check his bus. in fact the bus driver noticed the child on his/her bus when they got there as when the bus arrived back in blackburn the BUS DRIVER handed the child over to the police.

i also agree that people would complain that they missed a bus that went early.
