Shad Chefs took on the Blackburn Youth Darts Academy (BYDA) at charity fundraiser.

The family fun day at Saint Paul's Working Men's Club aimed to also raise awareness of the some of the important work the group does in the community.

Shane, from Shad Chef’s, said: "To be honest I have never really been into darts, but since seeing this Luke Littler he kind of got me into it.

"(Lee) Rennox, Dwayne and Wayne [all Shad Chefs] are quite into it as well so it has created quite a bit of a buzz.

“From a Man Hubs point of view it's not really about the money, it is more about the awareness for us because money can't buy awareness.

“I had no fantasies about winning, we came down to watch them train the other week when Keith first mentioned it to us and we were watching them play then and we said straight away that there is no way we are winning this but as I say it's the taking part that counts.”

They also had held an open competition, which was won by 14-year-old Joseph Westby who took £125 home in prize money.

The Blackburn Youth Darts Academy is for six to 18-year-olds wanting to take up darts.

Academy director, Keith Brunt, said: "Sunday was a great day for both the academy and Shad Chefs Man Hub.

“Whilst we would have liked to have more in attendance, it was still a fab day with 48 entries and we managed to raise a good amount of money for both organisations.

"Everyone who came along seemed to have enjoyed themselves.

“The kids loved the Academy vs Shad Chefs, with Blackburn Academy beating the Chefs 11-1. A fab family fun day all around."

Shad Chefs, which started out before lockdown, hosted council estate dinners and teas and began rating them.

The group have since helped to organise a number of local events including a Men's Hub, which meets every Thursday night at St Oswald’s Hall, which aims to help people with their mental health.

They also have a women’s mental health hub which meets at Shadsworth Hub above Heron Foods every Monday 7pm to 9pm.
