FIREFIGHTERS are urging people to empty skips at night and to move them away from buildings after a series of potentially serious fires.
The latest incidents occured on Friday night when children set fire to skips piled high with highly flammable material.
At 8pm on Princess Way, Burnley, a skip full of rubbish was set on fire by children near to the UK Bathroom Warehouse.
At 9.20pm in Escott Street, Burnley, a skip full of household furniture was set on fire.
Crew manager Steve Morgan said that skips piled high and left out were tempting for bored children on their summer holidays, and that both incidents on Friday night could have easily spread to neighbouring buildings, causing serious and costly fires.
He said: “People need to have the skips taken away at the weekend and not have them so close to other buildings."
