A 94-YEAR-old man was robbed in his own home for small change, police believe.

The pensioner was allegedly attacked at his house in Hallam Crescent, Nelson, at around 8pm on Sunday.

Police said a man made off with a “small amount of cash”, leaving the elderly man with a small cut to his hand.

Last night, a 33-year-old Nelson man was released on police bail after detectives spent the day questioning him over the incident.

Meanwhile, officers said the pensioner had been left “shaken” by the ordeal.

Det Insp Dave Groombridge, from Pendle CID, said: “We are investigating this report that an elderly man was robbed in his own home for a small amount of cash.

“We had one person in custody on suspicion of robbery helping us with our enquiries, but he has been bailed because we are still investigating the circumstances.”

It is understood that the attacker did not force his way into the 94-year-old’s property and detectives said there was no suggestion of a “violent struggle”.

However, as the man left the house, he was seen by a witness who reported it to the police.

Mr Groombridge added: “The victim has been left very shaken by this incident and he will need time to recover.”

Tomorrow detectives were due to continue their enquiries before the 33-year-old answers police bail next month.
