Drinker’s threats to kill husband

A 28-year-old man shouted racist abuse at a neighbour, saying he would kill her Iranian husband.

Blackburn magistrates heard that Jody Prior armed himself with a wooden sheath which he brandished in an aggressive way during his racist rant.

Prior, of Gloucester Road, Blackburn, pleaded guilty to using racially aggravated threatening behaviour and possessing an offensive weapon in Worcester Road.

He was remanded on bail for reports.

Catherine Allan, prosecuting, said Lorraine O’Neill was at home with her family at about 11pm when there was a disturbance outside. Prior was seen pulling over wheelie bins and pulling at the gate. He was swearing loudly and shouting obscenities.

When Mrs O’Neill went out she could see Prior was drunk and he started to demand that her husband came out and started making racist remarks.

Basharat Ditta, defending, said his client had never acted in a racist way before.

“He knows that he needs to live in harmony with his neighbours and that has always been the case in the past,” said Mr Ditta.
