POLICE officers have been going back to school in the Revidge and Corporation Park area of Blackburn.

Police and community support officers have been attending primary school classes and participating in lessons to get to know children in their community.

St Silas' CE Primary School, Sacred Heart RC Primary School and Westholme are enjoying these classroom initiatives, while officers have also attended Beardwood Humanities College and Queen Elizabeth's Grammar School to address any relevant issues.

PC Gary Hennighan, community beat manager for the area, said: "Schools are a massive focus in our area and it is important that children see police as positive role models from an early age.

"Most kids' experience of the police come from reality television shows.

“ This scheme will show that we have a more human side and that they can approach us."

He added: "The response has been brilliant. It is heartwarming to have local children coming up to us on the streets out of school to chat with us and ask questions."

Sessions take place once a fortnight.

Police have also used school assemblies to get across important messages about staying safe and staying out of anti-social behaviour.
