Chorley MP Lindsay Hoyle has hit out at vandals who have broken the tree planted for the Workers' Memorial in Astley Park.
The tree helps commemorate the thousands of the people who have lost their life at work and thousands of others who have been injured at work.
Every year a memorial service takes place in Astley Park with civic leaders to remember local people in Chorley who have lost their life and campaign for further improvements on health and safety in the workplace.
Mr Hoyle said: “It is very depressing to see the tree broken and you really have to question the mentality of people who can commit such an offence.
"Any form of vandalism is always unacceptable but to destroy a tree which commemorates a loss of life is very sick.”
“We can not allow a very small minority of vandals stop us from remembering those who have died at the workplace and I hope that the tree can be re-planted as soon as possible.”
