THIEVES cashing in on scrap metal stole lead worth £2,500 from Alder Grange School in Rawtenstall at the weekend.
Theft of metal, but especially copper and lead, has been on the increase due to the increasing value of the materials.
Police officers in the area are now carrying out Operation Mickey, which aims to catch out thieves who use scrap-dealing merchants to offload their stolen goods.
Anyone with information on metal theft can call Rossendale police on 01706 237481.
