PROVISIONAL results of national curriculum tests sat by 14-year-olds will be published on Tuesday, but only at a national level.
Schools Secretary Ed Balls revealed the move yesterday.
He said the Government’s head statistician had decided to delay publishing the provisional results of Key Stage 3 tests sat in English, maths, and science at a local authority level until there is “sufficient volume of data for every authority in all three subjects”.
The decision follows unprecedented problems with the marking of both Key Stage 2 and 3 national curriculum tests – or SATs – which meant that hundreds of schools broke up for summer with incomplete results, and concerns over the quality of marking.
The national results will be based on data confirmed on July 25, when 91per cent of Key Stage 3 results were available overall, with 84per cent in English, 95per cent in maths and 95per cent in science.
A breakdown of results by local authority should be published by October, Mr Balls said in his letter to the chairman of the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF).
