A 69-YEAR-OLD man who died after a hip replacement operation was later found to have extensive heart disease, an inquest heard.

The hearing was told that Mohammed Saeed had appeared to be making progress after surgery, but a post-mortem examination revealed severe furring of the arteries.

"His heart was not functioning well and that is why he did not recover well following surgery," said Dr Mark Sissons who carried out the post-mortem examination.

The medical cause of death was given as coronary arterial atheroma with bronchopneumonia and fractured hip contributing.

Coroner Michael Singleton recorded a verdict of accidental death on Mr Saeed, of Palmer Road, Blackburn.
