A MAN has been jailed after he admitted selling counterfeit porn DVDs, including some featuring animals.

Quan Wen Wu, 50, will serve a nine-month sentence for selling the discs on a street in Clitheroe, just two weeks after he was given a conditional discharge by magistrates for similar offences in Blackburn and Darwen.

The court heard that among the more than 130 discs Wu was attempting to sell were films of a "very strong and pornographic nature". One even had scenes involving horses.

At Hyndburn Magistrates Court Wu, a Chinese immigrant who does not speak English, admitted breaking trading standards laws and selling DVDs so explicit that they were unclassified in this country.

Among the collection for sale were titles including "Memoirs of a Madam" and "Angels of Debauchery".

Nick McNamara of Lancashire Trading Standards said Wu was arrested on February 28 in Chatburn Road, after a tip-off from a member of the public.

He was trying to sell DVDs from his rucksack for £2.50 each.

Wu was jailed after the court heard he breached a conditional discharge which was issued on February 16 for almost identical offences committed in Blackburn and Darwen.

Mr McNamara said: "Many of the discs were extremely explicitly pornographic in nature."

He said that Wu, who lives in Manchester, had not copied the discs himself but had bought them from a contact in Manchester to make money to pay off heavy debts.

Gareth Price, defending, said that Wu had no idea that many of the titles he was attempting to sell were sexually explicit.

Mr Price said: "He was ignorant of what it was that he was selling.

"This is not a high level offence, he is at best a low level player."

He added that on the day Wu was arrested he had not sold any DVDs.
