COUNCILLORS have voted to visit the site of a proposed new nursery in Barrowford after concerns were raised about parking.

Plans had been put forward to convert the former pupil referral unit in Gisburn Road into a childcare facility for 40 children.

Planning agent Alan Kinder said a late addition to the scheme, a car park at the rear of the premises, had been agreed with Pendle council officers.

He told a meeting of Barrowford and Western Parishes committee that the car park would have four supermarket style mother-and-child spaces, and four for staff.

“It is also proposed to utilise a small minibus, as an after-school service, to drop off and pick up members of staff, to minimise the need for parking,” he added.

But Barrowford clerk Iain Lord said: “The main opening time is 9am and traffic on Gisburn Road then is horrendous. Each child means a car journey and there is the possibility of 40 cars with this applic-ation, dropping off children.”
