DOG OWNERS in Pendle are being urged to scoop up their pets' waste as part of a national campaign.

During Poop Scoop Week, which runs from Monday, June 23 to Sunday, June 29, Pendle Council and Dogs Trust are aiming to highlight the problems caused by dog fouling and encourage irresponsible dog owners to change their ways.

Last year 152 tonnes of dog waste was put into dog bins in Pendle parks and public spaces compared to just 57 tonnes three years ago.

Council leader John David said: "Last year we received 415 complaints about dog mess.

"I want to remind dog owners of their responsibility to pick up after their pet.

"Together we want to get rid of this very unpleasant and frankly dangerous problem."

Owners who fail to pick up their dog's waste could get a fixed penalty fine of £75.

Free poop bags are available at council buildings including, Contact Pendle at Market Street, Nelson, Colne Town Hall, Barnoldswick Tourist Information Centre, Earby District Office and Brierfield Town Hall.

I think the primary problem with dog walkers is that of convenience. If they don't have bags readily available they don't bother picking up the poop.

What they need is a product that makes it more convenient to pick it up. Such a product can be found <A href="http://www.rgp

Once you use the SmartWalk Manager you'll wonder how you did without it.

look you canine owning lot - Scoop up. I actually welcome the council's harsh line on this. The fines should be treble what they are, and an ASBO slapped on anyone not scooping up.
