A PENDLE firm is launching the first ever British Beachcombing Weekend in a bid to protect future marine life.
Cottages4you, of Earby, is staging the event from July 25 to 27 to encourage families to holiday closer to home and raise awareness about endangered marine life.
As part of the event, in conjuction with marine charity Shark Trust, families will trek along beaches searching for unusual finds such as semi-precious stones, Costa Rican sea beans or even shark egg cases.
Marketing, planning and distribution director Andrew Barningham, said: “Guests at our 9,000 holiday cottages across the UK, many located around costal areas, are always looking for new and interesting things to do.
“This provides the perfect activity while helping a worthwhile conservation charity in the process.”
A guide to beach-combing, suggested beaches and where to stay can be found at http://blog.cottages4you.co.uk/beachcombing.
