MORE than £450 worth of lead was stolen from buildings in a Pendle village in a spate of overnight thefts.

Police said a metal belfry casing worth £250 was taken from All Saints Church, Skipton Road, overnight on Wednesday September 17.

And at 11.40pm on the following evening, a man used a hacksaw to cut through lead drainpipes from the same building.

But police said the man, described as being in his late 30s, of a heavy build, unshaven, wearing a black woollen hat and a fluorescent vest, ran off, leaving the haul.

In another incident, £250 worth of lead was stolen from Earby Sports and Social Club’s roof..
