A CARE home boss has reassured residents worried about a centre for problem teenagers opening in their neighbourhood.
People living close to The Hollies, in Rising Bridge Road, Haslingden, held a meeting last week after they learned about Blackpool-based Northern Care’s plans to open up a facility for girls aged 11 to 18 with “challenging behaviour”.
One resident said he was concerned for his young son and was worried about the effect of the centre of house prices. Meanwhile, ward councillors said they would talk to planners about the situation.
However, David Rae, chief executive of Northern Care, said bosses would hold an ‘open day’ for residents to view the site before it opens, which is expected to be October.
He said he hoped the chance to see first hand the care offered by the firm would allay their fears.
He added: “There seems to be some confusion as to what happens at the Hollies.
“Residents are upset with the service we run, which is natural, but we always work with communities.
“However, it is hard to do that when all people can see is building men in there and they cannot see the building situation.
“We have open days when we invite people to look around.
“We are regulated by Ofsted and we also work with them too. We want to be good members of the community.”
David Stansfield, ward councillor for Worsley where the home is situated, said he was behind the residents 100 percent.
Mr Stansfield said: “It is on my doorstep and I do not want it.
“I fully support the residents in the area because I am their councillor. We already have similar facilities in the area and do not need any more.
“It seems like Haslingden and Ramsbottom have become the dumping ground for these types of homes.
“The price of houses will drop. We have elderly people and families living here and it will cause social problems for everyone.”
