BLACKBURN Rovers' latest signing Jason Roberts is ready to take Europe by storm next season after describing his move to Ewood as a dream come true'.

The 28-year-old striker joined Mark Hughes' Rovers revolution when he completed a £2.25million switch from Wigan Athletic yesterday just hours after the club had also wrapped up the signing of Franny Jeffers on a free transfer.

Roberts has penned a four-year deal with the club and he quickly revealed it was the chance to test himself in Europe next season that led him to snub moves to Charlton Athletic and the Turkish side Besiktas in favour of a switch to Blackburn.

"One of my goals as a footballer was to play in Europe regularly, so to play Uefa Cup football this year will be a big thing for me," said Rovers' new recruit.

"But I've got to work hard and try to get myself in the team."

Rovers beat a number of clubs to Roberts' signature, but the powerful forward insists he had his heart set on a move to Ewood from the moment he knew the club were interested in signing him.

"I've known about the interest for a while," he said.

"I always thought it was a dream move for me and I'm just really happy it has come true.

"The stature of the club, Uefa Cup football, coming sixth in the league last season, the manager, the players - I've played against Rovers twice last year and they were fantastic - they are all reasons why I have signed.

"First and foremost, I want to help the team and be part of a successful team because that is the most important thing.

"If I can get my fair share of goals as well then that will be a big consideration."

Roberts' form in front of goal was one of the main reasons why Wigan took the Premiership by storm last season, the striker finding the net a total of 14 times as the Latics finished 10th in the league and reached the final of the Carling Cup.

However, the former West Brom and Portsmouth hitman then fell-out with chairman, Dave Whelan, over a new contract, which paved the way for his move to Rovers.

Roberts' arrival is a welcome boost for Mark Hughes, who was desperate to strengthen his strike-force in the wake of Craig Bellamy's departure to Liverpool, and his pace and strength up front should prove to be useful assets.
