BLACKBURN Rovers skipper Andy Todd could be in hot water with the club after he was involved in a war of words with manager Mark Hughes during last night's stormy encounter at St Andrews.

Todd reacted angrily to being substituted in the 75th minute of Rovers' 2-1 at the hands of Birmingham and appeared to throw his captain's armband to the floor in disgust before returning to the dug-out, where he then exchanged heated words with Hughes.

The Rovers boss later made no reference to the incident in his post-match press conference but he was clearly not impressed by the reaction of his captain.

The incident was triggered when Todd went down injured by the corner flag with 15 minutes of last night's game remaining.

After treatment from club physio Dave Fevre, Todd appeared to indicate he was ready to continue but Hughes had already decided to replace him with Aaron Mokoena, which prompted the skipper's angry reaction.

Meanwhile, midfielder Robbie Savage was also involved in a fresh war of words with Birmingham duo David Gold and Steve Bruce in the aftermath of Rovers' defeat.

Blues supremo, Gold, angrily accused Savage of refusing to shake his hand, while Bruce described the Welshman's goal as a mis-hit' and added he'd been mis-kicking it all night'.

But the Rovers midfielder retorted: "They should keep their mouths shut until they are safe from relegation.

"David Gold is not telling the truth if he says I refused to shake his hand.

"I was doing my warm-up on the pitch before the game when he sent a steward over to say David Gold wants to see you' but I wasn't going to drop everything to go and see him."
